Animation.

Since modeling and animating a mouse with huge success, i was quickly underway animating more important scenes focusing only on the main character both real and in the dream world. I really enjoyed being a part of the animation and wanted more and more responsibility in this field. In the end I was given 3 important scenes. Below are some screenblasts i had taken during animating.

Rock tunnel

this is another test of the rock tunnel scene. i made a small tunnel and the object moving fast towards us is to reprisent our hero running through the tunnel.

FIRE

I have been doing tests on how to control fire. in this test below i have learnt how to move fire from one point to the next. i am looking into flames that dont move. I have also started looking at moving fire thats stuck on an object.

concept art

This is a rough concept are for a different group. this is the little girl in a hospital with her teddy bear that later becomes alive.

in this video, i am testing what falling Rocks will look like with gravity pull. i am at the moment looking at breaking up a rock as it hits the floor but am concerned about the poly count.

This model is still rough and will need adding small details.

Below is what the model looks like smoothed.

I will be animating a mouse early in the film. I have taking it upon myself to not only animate but also model the mouse. Below are the first images of the mouse. The character is not complete yet as more detail will be added.

above is the mouse head.

Side Project

Along side my main project 'Aztec Escape'. I had decided to help other groups that where slightly behind or needed help in a certain area. I was asked to design and model a character that was a teddy bear but also a living creature. It had to resemble a bear, rabbit and a man.

Below are the Maya model images of the character i designed.

Above is the low poly head of the character and below is a high poly top body.

Below is what the character ended up looking light when completed. There is a front on and profile image.

I still needed to add some furniture to the room. i needed a book cabinet, DVD rack and a radiator. I modeled these keeping them in the same style (slightly abstract).

The image below is a finshed look at what the room may look like without teh sofa.

Along side doing the character designs, i am also in control of a lot of how the living room should look, with me not only doing the concepts but also modeling it. Environment illustrations are not my strongest attribute so instead of doing drawings of great proportions and perspective, i wanted to do rough but very interesting concepts.

This image is shot from behind the sofa. In the image you see the main character asleep with the controller in his hand with the pizza box on the floor. The TV and TV unit which includes the stereo system is going to be a key part and will be seen clearly by the camera. Below are images of the models that will later on be put together to make a believable living room.

I started by modeling the playstation 2 and playstation controller.

Next i modeled the TV and the TV cabinet.

Later I put a pizza box and speakers in with the TV unit. Slowly bit by bit the living room is starting to look realistic.

Our film is not supposed to look realistic just believable. If you closely look at the speakers and TV, they are distorted.

whilst thinking about a new design for the main character. I had coloured an image i had done a few weeks ago. I liked the drawing wanted to see what a finshed version would look like.

A hero on a Mission

The film has changed dramatically and now there are no animals and only one hero. The hero is actually dreaming of this adventure and in real life , the main character is sleeping on his sofa. In the real world, the character sleep walks and has a similar adventure walking around his house to the hero in his dreams. i had drawn an image to see our hero running through the jungle in the early stages of the film.

Above is a drawing I imported into photoshop to colour.

Here i imported an image of trees and placed it behind the image to give the illusion he is running through the woods.

human characters

Before spending a great deal of time on any of the human characters, I needed to create a concept page showing a variety of different faces and then focusing on a few to progress with.
Below are the first drawings i done for both characters.

The group felt that all the characters fitted the requirements however only two were chosen. The middle one and the bottom one. Once hearing the feedback, i began to draw up full length body shots and different emotions for the characters.

character A. this character represented persistence, dedication but being seen overal as a nerd.

Character B. this character represented pride, athleticism and over all very arrogant. Below are two sketches of the same character.

In these drawings i wanted to show how athletic he was by over exaggerating his muscles and hero hairstyle that resembles Supermans. i wanted to make him cheesy, a womans man. i looked at the character in beauty and the beast for inspiration.

These are few other ideas i had done in the process of completing my character designs. I wanted to take further the ant-eater but not getting the backing of the group, we generally decided other characters would be better suited for the roles. The characters on the right are all seen in tropical jungles were our film is situated.

Above is the sloth. The group loved this character and wanted me to continue the idea. This was the original drawings of the sloth. Later the style change to adapt to the feel of the movie.
Aztec Escape originally started of with five characters. Three animals and two humans that all contrasted with one an another. You would have a smart animal as well as a stupid one. An athletic human to a fat one. This would show a variety of personalities and animation. My job was to design these characters. Below were my favorite animals i had designed which had received the thumbs up from my group

The gorilla represents the smart animal which would be the leader of the animal gang.

This was the sloth, the immature and clumsy one of the group.

This was the lizard, my favorite character of the animal group. He is constantly exited and on his toes, quite childish and playful.
